Peter Hobson |
| Peter Hobson born 21.09.46 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.
Educated through the state school system. Joined the Royal Navy in 1962 within the Navy electrical arena. After a rapid but fairly conventional promotional structure, was promoted to Chief Weapons Engineer. After a term with Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive (MOD PE) became a System Engineer in charge of the weapons systems on County Class Destroyers before rejoining MOD PE as a Trial Officer within their trials and acceptance organisation. Peter left the Royal Navy in 1986 to start his own business and now owns and runs a successful Land Rover Vehicle Engineering facility employing 50+ full time employees. He is a Licentiate Automotive Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry. He is the author of several published works on Land Rovers, which includes the definitive guide to Winching in Safety for Land Rover Ltd. 1. In 1962, his shooting formally began when he joined the RN HMS Vincent and won his 1st shooting prize using a .22 Enfield conversion (No. 9 Rifle). His 40th competitive year starts! Since mid 90s, his company (Hobson Industries Ltd) has been appointed Service Provider to Land Rover Government and Military Operations. In 1999, he commenced accurising trials within the NRAs 155gr bullet programme with Radway Green and at least one of his accuracy findings has been incorporated within the new round design in relation to bullet seating depth criteria and implications of over pressure in firearms of incorrect bullet jump – hence the measurement of all Target Rifles used in NRA competitions for bullet jump in 2001. This trial is on going. He has also developed the first practical measuring equipment for bullet seating depth with regards to the bullets ogive and a practical solution for measuring between a rifle barrel’s rifling lead with respect to bullet ogive to determine bullet jump distance in any firearm of a common calibre range. This also has a practical application in respect of different bullet manufacturers with both benefits to accuracy and also correct fit to reduce over pressuring possibilities through compressed rounds. This work continues. He intends to publish the work on accuracy improvements, particularly in respect of the 155gr round which he hopes will be a significant, but not the last, contribution to our sport. |

Brian Fox |
| Born in 1946 at Manchester, Brian and his wife started shooting pistol in 1992. After the 1997 Act, rather than roll over, they turned, rather blindly, to other forms of shooting, and now shoot long range pistol, a Buckmark pistol, and an assortment of target rifles. They have a varied collection of old-timers, and Brian hunts deer, avian game, and vermin.
After a career in insurance, from which he retired in 2000, he has built a small firearms dealership importing rifles and optics. Outraged by government cynicism that destroyed an honourable sport, Brian joined the Sportsmans in the early days, and attended all the marches, and hopes this, or a future, government will, with our encouragement, develop the integrity to legitimise the 2012 Olympics. |
